The Jews are sometimes referred to as "God's Chosen People". The Bible explains the whole history behind this title, along with why that one group of people is particularly special to God. It basically boils down to a special promise that God made to a single man, named Abraham, thousands of years ago. The whole thing is extraordinarily fascinating, but that topic isn't the focus of this article.

The greatest aspect, pertaining to what Jesus said in this passage, is the fact that Heaven, and salvation, is open to everyone.

The invited guests, whom Jesus mentioned, is the nation of Israel (the Jews). Jesus came into the world to be its savior, but the Jews murdered him, causing prophesy to be fulfilled. As was described in the parable, God has now opened salvation to all human beings, not just the Jews. This is excellent news for all of mankind.

As is shown in the parable, God wants everyone to go to Heaven and be friends with him. Every single human being, for all time, has been invited. None of us needs any invitation from anyone else. We've all been invited, already, by the sovereign God of the universe. That's what makes the previous incidents so sad. People choose to stay away from Jesus, and truth, because they feel they need to be invited by someone else here on Earth.

But the truth is that salvation isn't a "prom" situation. No one should stay away, as Suzie did, in the opening story. This is because no other invitation is needed. We've all been invited by God, already, to become citizens of Heaven.

I live in the United States of America. In this country, there are copies of Bibles in nearly every bookstore, and churches are scattered everywhere. If a person wants to learn about God, few barriers are stopping them.

I still think about my friend who was offended because I didn't probe deeper to learn his quesiton -- the question that caused controversy, which led him to turn away from God. However, I do know that he would have found the answer to his question had he chosen to search the Bible relentlessly, rather than settle for people's opinions. He would have found truth, along with perfect peace.

God isn't hiding. He merely chooses to reveal himself to those who diligently seek him. I know from personal experience. When I was young, I had a dog who died. I asked those around me to point out a verse, in the Bible, that says that dogs don't go to Heaven. No one could show me a verse. They could only give opinions. So I read my Bible, from cover to cover, looking for the answer myself. When I finished the book, I had learned more about God than merely the answer, for which, I had been searching.

The Bible says the following about those who seek him:

"Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners! Purify your hearts, you hypocrites! Be sorrowful, cry, and weep; change your laughter into crying, your joy into gloom! Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up."

-James 4:8-10

"My child, learn what I teach you and never forget what I tell you to do. Listen to what is wise and try to understand it. Yes, beg for knowledge; plead for insight. Look for it as hard as you would for silver or some hidden treasure. If you do, you will know what it means to fear the Lord and you will succeed in learning about God. It is the Lord who gives wisdom; from him come knowledge and understanding. He provides help and protection for those who are righteous and honest. He protects those who treat others fairly, and guards those who are devoted to him."

-Proverbs 2:1-8

If you want to know God, don't wait to be invited by a friend, relative, coworker, or anyone else. God, himself, has already invited you. Being close to him, and knowing him, is a choice. It starts by praying to him with a heart of complete sincerity. Don't be afraid to be honest with God since he knows your thoughts anyway. It continues with persistently reading a Bible that you can clearly understand. Don't read it to fill a quota. Instead, read it with a sincere desire to know God.

Don't be like my friend who abandoned truth because he paid attention to lies that he heard from others, and not truth, which comes from the Bible itself. It's like anything else. If you have carefully studied a subject, you'll know whether or not others are right in what they say about it. You won't be mislead because you'll know the truth for yourself.
